Kool-Aid Playdough

We tend to get super excited about things we can create with simple ingredients not only in our cooking but for our crafts. Or maybe it's just me. Regardless, this is a fun activity for the little ones. Our two and four year old LOVE to get involved. Last week we made puffy paint. Want to explore color theory with your kids? Colorful mixing eruptions is really neat. Again, all activities using some simple ingredients for your art, science and play needs.

To make Kool-Aid Play-dough...

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • kool-aid packet (any flavor)
  • 1 tbs cooking oil
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
Optional:
  • essential oils
  • food coloring
  • paint
  • liquid watercolors
  • glitter
  • cookie decorations
  • Kitchen Aid

Directions:
Heat the water. I use a tea kettle. You could also microwave it. While the water is heating, add all the dry ingredients to the mixer. Next add the cooking oil. Nothing fancy. Just add the ingredients to the mixer, and the Kitchen Aid does its magic.

Once the water boils add it to the mixer bowl.

Tip: I applied some wax paper on a tray for easy clean up and let them go to town with heart cookie cutters, hey it's almost Valentine's Day and some leftover sprinkles for texture and creativity. Also, this play dough makes for a nice sensory activity because it smells so good!

Hope you have fun making it with your kids or for your kids. They will love it! For us moms, well I got to take cute pictures, wash dishes before my husband got home and finish a load of laundry. Big win.
