3 ingredient Puffy Paint

You can make puffy paint. Sweet. This means you don't have to go out and buy it. All the ingredients might already be in your kitchen.

Homemade puffy paint is such a great art activity for children and parents. Plus it has the added bonus of being a little bit experimenty. Is that a word?

To make your Puffy Paint, all you need is:

Making your puffy paints:
Combine flour and salt in a small bow. Add a little bit of water and stir until you get a smooth thin paste. Add in your favorite coloring (can use colored icing or frosting, food coloring, or kool-aid packets).

*If you want to double or triple the recipe, use equal parts of flour and salt. Especially with multiple children and creativity.
for example: use 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of salt for each colored paint cup.

Next, get some sturdy cardstock or thin cardboard, and some paintbrushes or q-tips, and get creating!

Now for the science!

Watch the magic happen when you place your masterpieces in the microwave for 30 seconds. They will puff up! Your artwork will be warm when you remove it from the microwave, but it will completely set.

Tips for our next painting adventure:
Double the batch, sprinkle in some glitter, use kool-aid packets for color, funnel the paint into squeeze bottles and refrigerate them for next time.
Here's a great recipe from Learn Play Imagine .

They come out so cool looking and your kids love the texture.
