The BEST Pomegranate Technique (No Water Method) Quick Trick

Happy New Year Everyone!

Great news, pomegranates are still in season and today I'm sharing how to eat them and how to open one.

The key is knowing how to seed the pomegranate. This video has been viewed 2.2 MILLION times so it must be good! He uses a wooden spoon and SPANKS the pomegranate. Ha! I personally love this technique because it's quick and easy.

I eat the entire seed (red juicy part and crunchy seed part) and even my kids will eat them (in a smoothie of course but see notes for juicing the seeds first). There is also a special, antioxidant rich smoothie recipe for you at the bottom.

What to do with the seeds?

  • Eat them as a snack
  • Toss them on a salad
  • Garnish a soup or even guacamole
  • Add them to sparkling cocktails
  • Sprinkle them in your yogurt or oatmeal
  • Top your ice cream or goat cheese

They are packed with nutrients, yummy and so festive.

These wonderful fruits are in season from October through February and will last in your fridge for almost a month unopened.

Once you seed them, you should eat them within the week or you can freeze the seeds for future sprinkles of deliciousness. *(see notes below)

*Notes:

Juicing Pomegranates If you want to make juice from the seeds, pulse a cup at a time in a blender, just enough to break the seeds and then use a rubber spatula to push the juice through a fine strainer. Add your desired level of sweetness. 2 large pomegranates will generally yield 1 cup of juice, which is all you need in 1 serving for a smoothie.

Also note that pomegranates are very acidic and will react with metals such as aluminum or carbon steel.

Freezing Pomegranate Seeds Once you have de-seeded your pomegranate, make sure the seeds are dry. Arrange them in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place in freezer for 2 hours or until frozen. Once frozen, put them into a freezer bag or container and store them in the freezer.
